After they fixed it, i drove for a while on a trip (~200 miles). halfway there, the low coolant light came on and when i checked the reservoir, the liquid was below the min line. when i opened the cap, i heard a "swoosh" and the liquid came back up to the line. the dash light went off so we continued to our destination. So i recently purchased a 2015 touareg tdi and have noticed that it's losing coolant. every few days i'm having to add coolant but not a whole lot. it gets just below the minimum line and so i add more. i've added 3 4 times now since purchasing 3 weeks ago. the temp while driving never gets above 200 205 even during long trips so no overheating.

Yes, the vw p2181 code description is cooling system performance. possible causes include (but are not limited to) a bad coolant temperature sensor (cts), stuck thermostat, bad waterpump, bad electrical connector somewhere between the cts & the ecu (car's "brain"), or a failed cooling fan. most likely the problem is the coolant temperature. 2) hose from the expansion tank to the top left hand corner of the radiator. you need a pen light to look underneathe the fan housing cover to see if there's "pink" fluid residue. 3) water pump. the pump bearing fails with age. easy fix. 4) behind the alternator they are water cooled. you need to raise the truck, remove the bottom cover to check.
