I like both. the matco locking flex mechanism is better because when you unlock it it stays unlocked. if you always want it locked at whatever angle, the snap on is good. matco has a thinner head. i think snap on ratcheting mechanism is smoother. get both! in 1 4, 3 8, and 1 2. 1.
Ntd Snapon 3 8 Locking Flex Head Goodness R Tools Kowertv. • 6 mo. ago. matco 88 offers a slimmer head, higher tooth count at 88 teeth and a more recessed lock switch than the snapon. however the tooth count can be misleading as the swing arc on both ratchets is still 4 degrees. the snapon ratchet offers a dual pawl contact on an 80 tooth gear, harder metals and a sealed ratchet head. Utter garbage in my opinion. i use snappy flex head and some matco locking flex heads that i never lock unless i need to. i personally hate fixed heads and locking flex heads, all of my ratchets are non locking flex. matco no longer makes a non locking flex either so if you want that you’ll have to go snap on. The slim head on the matco takes it for me when it comes to locking flex heads. i do have a snap on 1 2" regular flex head and i will say the snap on ratchets are nice and feel more robust. but for a locking head i would stick with the matco tbh. It's a shame because it's a really nice ratchet. i’m just a hobbyist, but i have a used snap on 3 8" locking flex head (fhx80a) off ebay, and i’m not really a fan. i rarely ever want it locked, but it seems to want to be locked, and always at an inappropriate time. some people love them but i personally hate them.
