Taking On The Climate Crisis The Aspen Institute Story of founding of mothers out front and how moms are working together to create the world we want for our kids, and how every person who cares about protecting children has an important role to play in addressing climate change. the idea is to convey a sense of agency and possibility to the audience. Mothers out front is a movement of over 24,000 mothers in the united states, working to protect their children and communities from the impacts of climate change. the mothers out front movement started in 2013 when co founders kelsey wirth and vanessa rule met in a living room in boston. since then, mothers out front has grown into a nation. Kelsey was inspired to start mothers out front after becoming a mother and feeling despair about how climate change will impact her children’s lives. struck by how few opportunities people had to meaningfully engage in addressing the problem, she set out to change this under the guidance of veteran organizer and social movement scholar marshall ganz. kelsey is co founder and former president. This is one of the guiding principles behind the work of mothers out front, a grassroots organization founded by kelsey wirth ab ’91 that mobilizes moms—and anyone else who would like to join—to take action in the climate crisis. “moms know how to get things done, even in the midst of our busy lives,” says wirth.
