We need only to allow him to live in us, guiding and convicting us, he provides the strength and power to help us fulfill his love commandments. philippians 2:13 says, “for god is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” not that loving like jesus is easy. jesus sets the bar ridiculously high. to love.

God calls us to be just like himself. imitating jesus all the time is impossible. it is easier to start with small incremental goals; for example five minute increments. follow jesus in five minute increments. can i obey jesus 300 seconds in the things that i do and say? and then for another 300 seconds, and another 300. God wants us to love like he does. in 1 john, we read that god is love. it’s not that he is good at loving or even the best at loving, but he is love; it’s part of him. so we can learn to love from him. the prime example of god’s love is jesus dying for us. the verse from colossians tells us to “clothe ourselves” in love. Answer. a christian wants to be as much like jesus as he or she can be. part of being like jesus is loving like jesus loved. god has a goal of conforming us to the image of his son (romans 8:29). jesus was always obedient to the father (john 8:29), he was pure in every way (hebrews 4:15), and he loved people selflessly (matthew 9:36; 14:14).
