Load Test On Dc Series Generator Experiment Demonstration Youtube What is a dc series generator? it is a machine that works on the principle of electromagnetic induction and it converts the mechanical input given to electrical energy. the field winding is attached in series with the armature winding of this type of machine. the equivalent circuit of this type is shown in the figure below. A dc generator, whose schematic is shown in figure 8.1, is an electrical machine which converts the mechanical energy of a prime mover (e.g. dc motor, ac induction motor or a turbine) into direct electrical energy. the generator shown in figure 8.1 is self exciting. it uses the voltage e a generated by the machine to establish the field current. Internal characteristic of series wound dc generator. the internal characteristic curve shows the relationship between the voltage generated in the armature and the load current. this curve accounts for the drop caused by the armature reaction’s demagnetizing effect, making the actual generated voltage (e g) less than the no load voltage (e 0). The no load characteristics of a dc series generator are similar to the no load characteristics of a shunt generator. but, at no load condition, the generator is running at a constant speed due to series connection no field current flows as the load current i l, is zero. hence it is difficult to obtain no load characteristics.
