97 2001 Ford Explorer V8 Thermostat Replacement Youtube Subscribe today!!! showing you how to replace the thermostat, thermostat housing gasket and water pump bypass hose on a ford explorer 5.0 v8. with the right. Take off the latch for the filter, unplug the 2 plugs in the intake, and pull the vacuum line out. now, unscrew the hose clamp with the flathead screwdriver, and remove intake. now there is that throttle cable cover there. that needs to be removed. take you 8mm socket, and remove the 2 bolts holding that on. Rough instructions: remove the splash shield from the intake (4 small bolts 11 32 i think) remove the air intake hose from between the throttle body and air box (2 hose clamps) disconnect the cables from the throttle body (should be self explanatory when you look at them). Here is what i did: please note that this write up is for the removal and replacement of the thermostat for a 4.0l sohc. the write up for the 4.0l ovh was done by ' charlie ' and can be found here. tools needed: ratchet. 8mm socket. 10mm socket. 9 32" socket (the 7mm was a bit smaller and the 8mm to big) pliers.
