Force Diagram Inclined Plane As an example consider the situation depicted in the diagram at the right. the free body diagram shows the forces acting upon a 100 kg crate that is sliding down an inclined plane. the plane is inclined at an angle of 30 degrees. the coefficient of friction between the crate and the incline is 0.3. determine the net force and acceleration of. F ⸗ = (sinӨ) (mg) the parallel force is the net force so we combine equations. f⸗ = f net. f net = (sinӨ) (mg) f net = ma. a = ( (sinӨ) (mg)) m. m cancels out resulting in an equation to solve for acceleration on an incline with only the angle of incline and acceleration due to gravity (g).

Inclined Plane Force Diagram To review, the process for solving inclined plane problems is as follows: draw a sketch of the problem. identify known and unknown quantities, and identify the system of interest. draw a free body diagram (which is a sketch showing all of the forces acting on an object) with the coordinate system rotated at the same angle as the inclined plane. Figure \(\pageindex{1}\): a block sliding down an inclined plane. the corresponding free body diagram is shown on the right. figure \(\pageindex{1}\) above shows, on the left, a block sliding down an inclined plane and all the forces acting on it. these are more clearly seen on the free body diagram on the right. Next, we set up force equations using newton's second law and our free body diagrams, taking the positive x direction to be the car going down the inclined plane. keep in mind the coordinate plane we have established sort of curves along the inclined plane and tension, so that the positive x direction for the counterweight is up the hill.
