Favorite Notions Part Three Sister S Choice Quilts Welcome back to my sewing room, for a tour of some items that i love using. the strange looking item in the photo above is not a sculpture. it is a standing thread holder, given to me some years back. Instagram has been buzzing in the past week or so with quilters sharing pictures of their favorite notions. i thought that would be a great topic for a blog post, but i have so many favorites, i think i have.

Favorite Notions Part Three Sister S Choice Quilts I have so many favorite quilting tools and notions that i had to break my post up into chapters! in the photo above is my fiskars rotating cutting mat. i have a larger one as well, but this tiny eight. Lay out the hsts you just made and all the other 2.5″ squares as shown in the picture below. press the seam allowances away from the half square triangle units as shown below. and now you sew the rows together to make the block. see, i told you it was easy! now to press the seam allowances. I admit it, i am a self professed thread snob. but in my opinion, i have never seen the value in plunking down a lot of cash for fabric, notions, and a pattern and then skimp on the thread. cheap thread can be bad for your quilt and equally bad for your machine. i like the long staple, cotton thread in a 50 to 60 weight for piecing.
