60s Cartoon Characters Atom ant (1965 1968) – follows the adventures of a superhero ant. the space kidettes (1966 1967) – a group of space traveling kids and their pet alien. the mighty hercules (1963 1966) – an animated series based on greek mythology. the new three stooges (1965 1966) – animated shorts featuring the classic comedy trio. Long before animated cartoons came to television, the three stooges were popular characters of an american vaudeville. they are best remembered for almost 200 short films depicting their adventures. later in the mid 60s, the animated versions of the characters came on tv screens with new adventures, depicted in the same slapstick comedy style as the original. Dastardly formed the head of the vulture squadron, a four man team consisting of himself, muttley, klunk and zilly. the team’s sole mission was to intercept enemy documents carried by a homing pigeon called yankee doodle pigeon. the squadron’s aircraft (which equally took the form of biplanes, monoplanes, and even tri or quad wing machines. Underdog popped pills. but, you know, it was the 60’s. 16. the atom ant secret squirrel show (1965 to 1967) we are very quickly moving into the era of the saturday morning superhero explosion. this hour long show was split in two, dealing with the ultra powerful ant of the title and the superspy squirrel.
